Une Histoire Bizarre is a story of dreams, of people like us who came here so they could keep on dreaming,
Sebastião MartinsI realised how important it is in people’s lives to have someone to tell their story to
Through the voices of 14 refugees and migrants currently living in Portugal and 4 Portuguese actors, Une Histoire Bizarre tells what it is like to live here with your whole life on your back. And it is a genuine, honest and true account, because it is told in each person’s own language. On stage there are many different languages but only one language of expression: the body and silence. The audience is left to grasp, through gestures, pauses, songs, occasional translations and movements, the lives of those on stage. Throughout the show, in a story written by the actors during rehearsals, we learn what it is like to leave, how one travels, what it means to arrive and start again. And we see how we hear and understand all this, how we welcome them, how we react and how we feel the wish to belong to the world and yet belong nowhere.
