Sergei Rachmaninoff is perhaps one of the few musicians who, in all three fields in which he excelled – as pianist, composer and conductor – always held himself to the highest aesthetic and artistic standards.
The “Trio Rachmaninoff” project stems from the wish of these three great performers to pay tribute to Sergei Rachmaninoff, who, besides being one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, is also a compatriot of these virtuoso musicians: violinist Tatiana Samouil, cellist Pavel Gomziakov and pianist Andrei Korobeinikov.

At the invitation of the ONIX label, they embarked on this project of recording Sergei Rachmaninoff’s chamber music for violin, cello and piano.
The only work missing from the programme at the Sintra Music Festival is the Cello Sonata, which for artistic reasons is not included in tonight’s programme. We will therefore hear all of his chamber music for violin, cello and piano, paying tribute to an extraordinary composer who died in the United States, where he had moved in 1918, ending his days with the greatest international recognition.
